Efêmero Eterno
A extremely tensioned rope attaches something to somewhere.
But what is it attached to?
We are not told. Not knowing, what we have left it is to wander about the tension between two points - attitude that inevitably put us in front our own paradoxes. The inquisitive light, that illuminates a knot and eclipses the surroundings, will be our dismal companion on this journey trough fathomless labyrinths.
Cláudio Cruz handles light and creates enigmatic atmospheres, building a unstable environment that emerge from “chiaroscuro”. Moves in that way on the tradition of photographers that incite subjectivity, like W. Eugene Smith [1918 - 1978].
Involved by its high contrast image constellation, we wander through them as if they were the lost frames of a noir film from which we must strive to re-establish some possible narrative.
These dense, tense images that cry out to someone who deciphers them and restore any logic, sound like scenes that precede the apex of a drama that is about to unfold but which can only actually take place through the interpretation of each one. Cruz hints at scripts but wisely leaves them halfway for you to embark on an irreversible personal adventure. Welcome to your own mazes.
