The "Cerrado" is the second biggest biome of Brazil, occupying 24% of the country's territory. Recent studies show that with the crescent devastation, in less than two decades the entire biome will become a desert.

The National Park "Grande Sertão Veredas", a region that became famous for Guimarães Rosa's work, is one of the biggest preserved areas of the "Brazilian Savannah" and takes part of the north of Minas Gerais state and the south of Bahia's state.
